Gabriele Brandstetter

Keynote speaker Professor Gabriele Brandstetter, distinguished scholar in the field of Cultural Studies theory, Avant-Garde Dance, and (German) Romantic Literature, is internationally known and recognized as a pioneer in dance studies and has published more than 140 articles and 14 books. Her visiting professorships have taken her to Princeton, New York, Lisbon, Tokyo, Sao Paulo and Melbourne. She received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Award 2004 (the highest research award in Germany) and is the founder and director of the Centre for Motion Research (FU Berlin). The numerous exhibitions, international conferences and dance festivals she has organized show her interdisciplinary orientation in dance, theatre, music, art, literature and gender studies. Her research combines dance studies and anthropology, theatre studies and theories of the body, literature studies and theories of performativity.
