University of British Columbia Ph.D. student and German languge college instructor Ursula Baer in her research focuses on how Butler's theory of performativity can be utilized for an analysis of family-less characters within German literature, thus leading to a new reading and understanding of a child's bodily development outside the socio-economic 'norm'.
